BA Degree Transfer Policies

Eligibility for Transfer Admission
Students seeking to apply to Wesleyan’s BA program as a transfer student must have:

  1. Completed at least one full academic year at another postsecondary institution

  2. Earned the equivalent of at least 6.0 Wesleyan credits.

Applicants who do not meet both of these criteria must apply for admission as a first-year student.

Class Year and Time to Degree
Upon admission, transfer students are assigned a class year which determines the number of semesters expected to complete degree requirements. Transfer students are expected to keep pace with their assigned class year.

In exceptional circumstances, students may petition their class dean to request an additional semester to satisfy requirements for the bachelor of arts degree. Please see Graduation Requirements for semester-in-residence requirement.

Major Declaration Timeline
Transfer students are expected to declare their major as follows:

  • Entering as a first-semester sophomore: Before the end of the second semester

  • Entering as a second-semester sophomore: Before the end of the first semester

  • Entering as a junior: As soon as possible, but no later than the end of the first semester

Transfer Credit Policies

  • Credits approved for transfer from other institutions may be considered by the student’s major department for inclusion within the major

  • Courses must have been completed with a grade of C- or better to be eligible for transfer

  • Maximum of 2 credits may transfer from one summer term (2.5 in the case of science labs)

  • Transfer students are encouraged to meet Wesleyan’s general education expectations; transfer credits are evaluated for equivalency toward these expectations

BLS Degree

BA degree transfer policies apply to BLS students other than the following exceptions:

  • Admitted BLS students do not have a limit to the number of courses submitted or approved for transfer, although they will need to complete a minimum of 16 Wesleyan credits to qualify for the BLS degree.

  • All BLS students are expected to complete their degree within 4 years of matriculation to the BLS degree.

  • BLS students who choose to pursue a major instead of a concentration will be eligible to declare the major according to the BA transfer student timeline, with class years determined by the number of credits completed toward the BLS degree.

  • Credits approved for transfer from other institutions will be considered by the major department for inclusion within a major, or by the Continuing Studies office for inclusion within a BLS concentration.

Special Articulation Agreement: Center for Prison Education Program
Students who complete a Connecticut State Community College associate’s degree via Wesleyan’s Center for Prison Education Program and are admitted to the Bachelor of Liberal Studies program will receive a minimum of 16 Wesleyan credits upon transfer into the BLS program, provided they have completed a minimum of 16 courses (each valued at 3.00 or 4.00 semester hours) with a grade of C- or better.
