At most 4.0 prematriculation credits from college level courses (including dual enrollment courses) and prematriculation tests such as AP and IB tests may be counted toward BA or BLS graduation, and at most 2.0 such credits may be on the basis of prematriculation tests. Prematriculation credit can only be posted before graduating from Wesleyan University.

College and Dual Enrollment Courses

Up to 4.0 credits total from courses that appear on a college transcript prior to matriculation may be counted toward the BA and BLS degrees. Examples of such courses are

• College courses completed at an accredited U.S. or international institution.

• Courses taken through “dual enrollment” programs that are used toward high school graduation requirements, such as Wesleyan’s High School Scholar program and National Education Equity Lab courses.

Any such course must meet the requirements in the Transfer of Credit section in External Special Study Programs.

Students may post an unlimited number of prematriculation course credits to their academic history; however, only 4.0 credits may be applied toward:

• Graduation requirements

• Class promotion. 

Students are not permitted to use this credit to reduce the course load below full-time, to replace failing or unsatisfactory grades in classes, or to count toward fulfillment of the general education expectations. No course that is listed for credit on a student’s high school transcript may be used for Wesleyan credit, except in the case of approved dual enrollment credits.

Use of prematriculation course credits to satisfy course prerequisites or major declaration or completion requirements is at the discretion of the appropriate department.

Advanced Placement Credit, International Baccalaureate Credit, and Other Test Credit

A student who has completed an Advanced Placement (AP) course or its equivalent while in secondary school and has received a score of 4 or 5 in the corresponding AP examination for which there is an equivalent subject area at Wesleyan may be granted one credit per exam toward the BA or BLS degree.

A student who has completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) course of study and has received a score of 5, 6, or 7 on a corresponding higher-level IB examination for which there is an equivalent subject area at Wesleyan may be granted one credit per exam toward the Wesleyan BA or BLS degree.

Students wanting to post any other prematriculation test credit (e.g., A-level, Cambridge International, CAPE, etc.) must consult their class dean. The awarding of these prematriculation test credits is determined in consultation with the relevant department.

There is no limit to the number of prematriculation test credits that a student can post to their academic history. However, a maximum of 2.0 pre-matriculation test credits total may count toward graduation requirements, and a maximum of 2.0 prematriculation test credits may be used for the purpose of class promotion.
